WEDNESDAY PUBLIC MEETING WITH ELECTED OFFICIALS - IT'S TIME TO SHOW UP

The NC Environmental Review Commission is convening again (for the first time since April 2016), for a PUBLIC meeting about GenX, this Wednesday, August 23 at 1:30 at the New Hanover County Gov't building.

Appointed members of the Commission include 4 democrats and 16 republicans (list below).

Notably missing from the commission, and not invited during recent new appointments, is Rep. Deb Butler (D), who represents the two counties most effected by the GenX contamination (New Hanover and Brunswick).

Rep. Butler is also the only NC representative yet to approve of the request from the Dpt of Environmental Quality and the Dpt. of Health and Human Service for funding to address the crisis (funding that accounts for .001 of the budget, which is now experiencing a surplus).

Some NC senators have stalled progress on approval of the funds by submitting a letter to the state, asking them about previous actions with regard to water quality.  When asked by Clean Cape Fear about this response from these senators, Butler said "When the house is on fire, you don't stop to ask questions, you put the fire out."
