Fighting PFAS Contamination In North Carolina

Clean Cape Fear is a grassroots community action group working to restore and protect our air, soil, water and food supply from PFAS contamination, as well as spotlight deficiencies in government regulations that adversely impact our right to these basic needs. We formed in June 2017 after learning Chemours, formerly DuPont, dumped large quantities of PFAS into the Cape Fear River—our primary source for drinking water. We are committed to fighting Chemours, and holding our elected officials accountable.

PFAS in North Carolina

For nearly four decades DuPont, and later Chemours, dumped large quantities of PFAS into the Cape Fear River—the primary source of drinking water for approx. 500,000 residents in Brunswick, New Hanover, and parts of Pender counties. Learn about GenX and other PFAS discovered in our tap water.

HEALTH

We were overexposed to dangerous amounts of PFAS for decades due to contaminated tap water. North Carolinians with PFAS contaminated tap water are more likely to have two or more chronic diseases than residents in the rest of the state.
